Peruna Jazzmen -Senegalese Stomp

ARNE HOEJBERG - the name of the guy , who´ s to blame for it all.
You see, he´s partial to real Jazz music as done by Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Joe King Oliver, Clarence Williams and others among the founders of Jazz. He thought their music deserved to get out to people instead of always being fetched down from a dusty shelf by the rare collector.
So what to do? - You create your own Jazzband and go on the road. They did just that and in1959 the PERUNA JAZZMEN were born.Visit the Peruna Jazzmen’s website at
http://www.peruna-jazzmen.dk/

Band members: Michael Zuschlag 1st cornet since 1973, Peter Aller 2nd cornet since 1960, Claus Forchhammer clarinet since 1960, Arne Hoejberg trombone since 1959, Annette Strauss piano since 1974, John Neess banjo since 1975, Mil Schack washboard and drums since 1974 and Lea Hechmann sousaphone since 1960.

Folks, these are not their birthdays, These are the years they joined the band!
This is a band that stuck it out together!

This is from their 2007 website. The clip was made in 1988, almost 20 years earlier, Half the band had been there already some 28 years or longer. Isn’t this amazing. ....and what a sound!

They play the Senegalese Stomp, first recorded in 1926 by Clarence Williams’ Blue Seven with upcoming jazz stars Tommy Ladnier, Buster Bailey, Coleman Hawkins and the formidable Cyrus St Clair on blowbass.

I was listening to this early recording on a minidisc while converting Peruna’s version to youtube and dailymotion format, and it is almost frightening to hear these very similar sounds played some 60 years later. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that is the ongoing success of the Peruna Jazzmen, this wonderful band from Denmark!
