Two Hattiesburg, Mississippi police officers Benjamin J. Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 25, were fatally wounded in the line of duty Saturday night.

The officers were conducting a routine traffic stop at the intersection of Gordon Street and Bouie Street. During the traffic stop, both officers were struck by gunfire. They were later taken to Forrest General hospital but both succumbed to their injuries.

Police say the shooter fled the scene in an officer's vehicle but abandoned the squad car behind the Hattiesburg train depot, just a couple blocks away from the shooting.

Hattiesburg residents Tamika Mills and Pearnell Roberts were driving through the neighborhood when they spotted the wounded officers and called 911.

Police arrested Marvin Banks, around 1:15 am, about five hours after the shooting. They arrested the other suspect, Curtis Banks around 3 am.
