High school bomb threat? Suicide vest prank goes wrong for Arab teen asking prom date out

A Washington teen's attempt to go to prom with the date of his dreams blew up in his face after a poorly thought-out stunt involving a suicide vest got him a suspension that'll keep him from actually attending the ceremony, according to a report by the Columbian.

Ibrahim Ahmad, 18, said he thought it'd be both "funny and clever" to fashion a fake explosive belt out of red paper tubes, wires and a paintball vest and ask out his would-be date out for the important night in front of the rest of the student body during lunchtime.

While she accepted, shocked school administrators didn't quite see the humor in it.

Ahmad, who identified himself as Middle Eastern, somehow failed to realize how his actions could possibly be misconstrued by adults in the small town of La Center, population 2,800.

The school slapped Ibrahim with a 5-day suspension on Wednesday, meaning he won't be able to make it to prom on Saturday.

Every bomb cloud has its silver lining, though, and Ibrahim says the adorable couple still plan on grabbing a regular meal together.
