The legendary British-born singer, Joe Cocker recently passed away at the age of 70 at his home in Colorado.

In a statement, Sony Music confirmed his passing and further mentioned that he died following a battle with cancer. His agent, Barrie Marshall said Cocker's death leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him.

Cocker’s distinguishable voice catapulted him to stardom. His singing career began in the 1960s when he started performing at clubs in Sheffield, England.

In 1968, Cocker’s version of the Beatles’ tune ‘With A Little Help from My Friends’ topped the charts. Later, his duet with Jennifer Warnes, ‘Up Where We Belong’ also reached the number one spot and in the early 1980s, the song earned an Academy Award and a Grammy.

Over the duration of more than 5 decades, Cocker released nearly 2 dozen studio albums. Last year, he toured across Europe and performed in what ended up being his final concert in London this past June.

Marshall told the BBC, “He was without the doubt the greatest rock/soul voice ever to come out of Britain and remained the same man throughout his life.”
