A cheerful Pele left hospital on Tuesday (December 9) after a month of treatment for kidney stones and a urinary tract infection, joking that he was fit again and preparing for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The 74-year old former Santos and Brazil striker spent several days in intensive care this month but said he was not afraid of dying thanks to his hometown of Three Hearts.

"Thank God, I am well. I've gotten better. But I can't stop, above everything, thanking God and thanking everyone who sent me messages," said Pele.

"I was worried, of course. But I can't say I was afraid of dying because I am a man of Three Hearts, I won't die easily. But the doctor told me, look, you might be a man of Three Hearts, but you had a heart back there that if you're not more careful you're gonna spoil," he laughs.
