A tremendous explosion on the outskirts of Hama in west central Syria.
The target, according to video uploaded to a social media website, was a government checkpoint, where rebel fighters from the allied Islamic Front and Division 13 groups
had planted explosives.
Scenes like this are now being played out in cities across Syria... disparate rebel groups fighting government forces, and the better known Islamic State, in a bid for territory and overall control.
In the northern city of Aleppo, attacks like these have become part of everyday life, with rebel fighters, armed with machine guns and heavy artillery, clashing with government troops.
