PURPOSE AND BENEFITS OF THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

God our Heavenly Father, Jesus promised his disciples the baptism of the Holy Spirit because it is written: Acts 4 Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for [e]what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

This promise began to be fulfilled on the day of Pentecost as it is written: " Acts 2: 1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and hey rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance."
God my heavenly father, I too am one of your followers and I believe this promise of baptism in the Holy Spirit is for me as well as for the followers of every generation since you started building your church that wonderful day of Pentecost. So I ask you to send down on me, right now, the same fiery tongues of Acts chapter 2, make this fire of your Spirit rest upon me, wrap me in this purifying and protecting fire; and I ask you to fill me with the Holy Spirit and enable me to speak in other tongues as the Spirit of God gives me utterance. I open my mouth and the Holy Spirit will fill my mouth with wonderful words and I will prophesy by the Spirit, I will speak of the wonders of God in a language unknown to me, in a language I have not learned, in a language I will speak supernaturally by the power of the Holy Spirit alone. I will be made able to pray in this unknown language, sing in this unknown language, worship and praise God in this unknown language, glorify and exalt God through my spirit in that foreign language, as it is written "1 Corinthians 14: 2 for he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands, but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
