Swimmers and sunbathers often rely on lifeguards to keep them safe. Usually that’s the case but in one recent and unfortunate incident, a woman was run over by a lifeguard.

The accident occurred on Venice Beach in California. At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, the lifeguard had been driving a Los Angeles County vehicle across the beach.

The 25-year-old victim had been laying in the sand at the time. The lifeguard didn’t see her body and continued driving the truck. The woman was run over.

Once he realized what happened, he quickly stopped the truck. The woman was taken to the hospital where her injuries are labeled as non-life threatening. Her condition is listed as stable.

The woman has since released a statement to police. Risk management staffers have launched an investigation into the incident.

This makes it the second time in several months a county vehicle was involved in an accident with a sunbather.

In May, a sanitation truck ran over a woman who was laying on the sand. In that case, the driver also claimed not to have seen the female.
