Gaza shelling hits UN school

Israel said Wednesday's shelling and air strikes on Gaza targeted Islamist militants at dozens of sites across the enclave.

The United Nations said one of the places hit was this school it runs in Jabalya where people had taken refuge.

The U.N. Relief and Works Agency says 3, 000 were sheltering inside.

At least 19 were killed.

The Agency says about 125 more have been wounded.

The school in the Jabalya refugee camp came under fire around dawn.

Jabalya is the largest refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.

Its 120, 000 population has been swelled by more Palestinians trying to escape the latest eruption of fighting between Israeli forces and militant groups.

The U.N said on Tuesday it had found a cache of rockets at one of its Gaza schools.

It didn't blame any particular party but condemned those who it said had endangered civilians by putting them there.
