Dozens hurt in HK ferry crash

More than 30 people were injured when a high-speed ferry carrying 162 passengers bound for Macau collided with a mainland Chinese cargo ship in Hong Kong waters late on Wednesday (May 21).

The crash happened near Cheung Chau ferry pier around half an hour into the journey, causing damage to both vessels.

Pictures on local news channel ATV showed passengers inside wearing life vests as the ferry pulled into the Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan.

The passengers on the ferry consisted of 102 from a mainland tour group, 55 Hong Kong and Macau residents, and five foreigners, Radio Television Hong Kong reported.

ATV reported that 35 people with minor injuries were taken from the ferry to hospitals.

No casualties were reported on the mainland ship.
