A man in Memphis, Tennessee tragically passed away on the same street he lived on, after being hit by a vehicle. What makes the ordeal nearly unbearable is the fact that the victim battled and subsequently overcame numerous types of cancer.

59-year-old Curtis Echols had been walking home on a Saturday evening when a car careened off the road and struck a fence prior to fatally hitting Echols.

The victim was left on the sidewalk for dead. His shoes, feeding tube and cane were right beside him.

According to a witness, there were four female occupants in the Chevy Malibu that struck Echols. The driver started the car after the accident and fled from the scene.

Police immediately launched an investigation into the accident. They soon learned the car belonged to a 25-year-old female who had lent it out to friends prior to the incident.

21-year-old Curteria Leuellyn has been identified as the driver. She is now facing charges of vehicular homicide.

Despite the arrest, friends, family and neighbors of Echols are absolutely devastated at the man they admired and loved so much. Prior to his untimely death, Ethols successfully fought prostate, throat and tongue cancer.
