Traditional British weather for London's annual New Year parade

It was the 28th traditional New Year’s Day parade in London and was celebrated in the capital in typical British weather.
Seventeen marching bands played a host of instruments on their way through the city led by a group of musicians from Panama who nearly did not make it. Several of their instruments had been seized at Heathrow airport due to incorrect paperwork.
But the show must go on and more than 500,000 lined the three and a half kilometre route which passed some of London’s best known landmarks.
Over 10,000 performers from Britain and across the world took part in the event which has grown in popularity since its inception in 1987.
This years theme was the swinging sixties with the organisers promising the “grooviest New Year’s Day in over 50 years”.
“We are giving the world a reminder of how cool it all was then” said one of those behind the march.
With winds gusting to gale force and 46 flood warnings in place for the south of England – ‘cool’ was surely the first understatement of 2014.
