British Professor Mark Pelling is in Grenada to deliver the 19th William G Demas Memorial Lecture this evening as part of fringe events for the 48th Annual Meeting of the CDB Board of Governors to be hosted here tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday.

The CDB Board of Governors Meeting is being held with special focus on resilience against the backdrop of one of the most devastating hurricane seasons the Caribbean Region has experienced in recent history.

Professor Pelling is this evening delivering on the topic, “From Social Resilience to Survivor-Led Reconstruction” at the SGU Patrick Adams Hall.

In a preview held at the Radisson Hotel, this morning, Professor Pelling outlined the significance of physical, financial and social infrastructure when dealing with Disaster Risk Management.

He noted that social infrastructure was lagging in the thrust to build resilience.

Preceding this evening’s lecture was the 281st Meeting of the Board of Directors held on Monday, May 28th and a Welcome Reception hosted by Chairman of the Board, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.

Today, Tuesday a Meeting of the Procedures Committee of the Board of Governors and the Annual Meeting of Contributors to the Special Development Fund was also held.

Next on the schedule is the Official Opening Ceremony of the CDB Board of Governors Meeting on Wednesday at the Trade Centre. MTV will broadcast the proceedings live from 9am.
