Syria’s western backed opposition says it understands the decision by the US and UK to stop aid shipments.

Earlier this week, a rebel group raided warehouses belonging to the anti-government Syrian National Coalition (SNC), leading to fears the aid could fall into the wrong hands.

But the SNC is not angry at the move by Britain and America.

Spokesman Kahled Saleh told euronews: “This is very understandable. They, and other countries as well, will only deal with the SNC representative General Selim Idris as well. So we are waiting for that situation to be resolved. There are talks taking place right now. There is lots of strategy and planning taking place in order to prevent the situation taking place again in the future,” he said.

Western countries are trying to unify all the rebel groups under the SNC banner, to have a more effective voice both inside and outside the country.

And leaders of all the factions fighting the government in Syria have been discussing how to restructure the SNC into a more organised body.

But there are hundreds of rebel groups to be consulted, so progress has been slow.
