Banu Gibson and her Jazz Band
The band follows more or less Jelly Roll Morton's original arrangement.
The band manages to portray their own energetic sound to it, and it all sounds new and fresh again. This is an absolutely top jazz band, one of the best I've heard.Banu plays a beautiful banjo. I explained to a musician friend from Italy, Bluedeviljazz, that next to having a high quality banjo very much depend on the tightness of the skin, the placing of the bridge and also what kind of soundboard is used.. Banu knows all that!
Her band consists of musical director and pianist Dave Boddinghaus, cornettist Charlie Fardella, reedplayer Tom Fisher, trombonist David Sager and Jeff Hamilton on drums. All very talented and skilled jazz musicians who found their home in New Orleans
