Death toll in China oil pipeline blast rises to 48

The death toll in China after an oil pipeline explosion has now risen to 48.
The deadly blast blew out a section of the pipeline on Friday in the oil hub city of Qingdao.
Officials spent much of Saturday trying to clean up the blast site, using absorbent cotton to soak up the oil.
The pipeline is owned by oil company Sinopec, whose chairman expressed deep concern for the incident.
(SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) CHAIRMAN OF SINOPEC FU CHENGYU SAYING:
"I also express my apologies to people in Qingdao city and to people across the country. We will do whatever it takes to go all out in rescue, relief and rehabilitation work, coordinating with the State Council incident investigation group to find the cause of the accident as soon as possible."
Crude pipelines have been shut off in the city as officials conduct safety checks.
The disaster appears to be Sinopec's deadliest and is one of the worst industrial disasters in China this year.
