Afghan Talibans attack foreign forces convoy in Kabul

A convoy of foreign vehicles was attacked by the Talibans in Kabul on Friday, the first major incident in the city since July.
The attack took place in the east part of the city and started at around 5 p.m., while a convoy was leaving the fortified Green Village residential complex.
Most of the residents of the complex are contractors working as security guards for international agencies.
According to Reuters, "There were conflicting reports about what happened next, but the insurgents did not manage to enter the compound."
A car packed with explosives approached the convoy while it was exiting the compound and hit two of the convoy's vehicles, destroying them in the explosion.
An Afghan family in a passing by car was killed by the blast. According to the BBC's Afghanistan correspondent, David Loyn, the mother and four children died at the scene, while the father died in hospital of his injuries.
Gunfire outside the Green Village followed the explosion for some time.
The Talibans claimed responsibility for the attack.
Green Village was last attacked by a car bomb in May 2012, which killed eight people.
According to reports, Germany closed its embassy in Kabul as a precaution.
As Reuters reported, "The attack follows the capture of a senior Pakistani Taliban commander, Latif Mehsud, by U.S. forces in Afghanistan several weeks ago, an operation that angered the insurgent group as well as the Afghan government."
