Bomb in Kabul raises worries for Thursday's Loya Jurga

A suicide car-bomber has managed to explode his vehicle 100 metres from the tent in Kabul where next week Afghanistan’s Loya Jurga, or national tribal gathering, is to be held.
At least six people were killed and over 20 injured in the blast when the suicide bomber rammed his car into an Afghan army vehicle providing security for the tent compound.
The attack came just hours after President Hamid Karzai called on the Taliban to turn up for Thursday’s opening and take part in the debate on whether or not to allow some US troops to stay beyond 2014.
For almost a year the US has been trying to settle a Bilateral Security Agreement with Kabul. It will determine how many US soldiers and bases stay on after most foreign forces leave next year.
No agreement means the US might pull out completely. Two years ago it was a similar lack of agreement that led to the US completely pulling out of Iraq.
