A fisherman recently reeled in a pacu, which is a type of fish species related to the piranha. The discovery was a shock to local authorities.

A fish expert at the Natural History Museum of Denmark stated “The pacu is not normally dangerous to people but it has quite a serious bite, there have been incidents in other countries, such as Papua New Guinea where some men have had their testicles bitten off.”

Pacus, which are native to South America, can grow up to 35 inches in length and weigh up to 55 pounds. Their appearance is nearly identical to a piranha; the only difference being the teeth, which are said to be flatter and far stronger.

Pacus have an unsavory reputation, as men have bled to death after having their testicles bitten off. The recently discovered pacu is currently undergoing DNA tests to confirm the species type.
