Tony Caro & John “All On The First Day” 1972 UK Private Psych Acid Folk only 100 copies pressed
One of the rarest acid folk items (100 were pressed at that time) was this album by Tony, Caro & John, which was reissued on LP first a couple of years ago, but now got its official re-release on CD with liner notes, pictures and several bonus tracks. The whole album was recorded on a tape recorder with 2 tracked mono channels. Also this album has all the elements of the magical UK folk years, with acoustic guitars, bass, handpercussion and male/female vocal harmonies and singing, with some small parts of violin, various reverbs, electric wahwah guitar touches. Those persons who like Agincourt, and groups like that have a serious chew here.
Because the album was re-released on LP I gave it another listen and I must say I was surprised again by its quality of inspiration. There must have been a real special moment, atmosphere and even love affair haven been going on listening to to the songs and arrangements. There’s also a feeling of freedom with a few arrangements that crosses the edge of the obvious with creative solutions that are slightly funny but that firs so well and serious too. A happy energy there is. The female backing vocalist makes the association we get with Incredible String Band a bit stronger, but this still is a unique setting and moment of something magical happening. It worked and it’s saved on record ! At the first listens I had a few favourite songs, but now I see something of the same qualities, elements and association on each moment of the album. Recommended!…………
