The logic in casting Martin as Bilbow makes sense I do see a similarity him and Ian Holm to make it believable. In fact I was watching Alien which I've just got on bluray and they do look alike there.

I'm pretty sure I read Peter had him in mind for Bilbo for the LOTR movies. Also compare what Bilbo wears to what Sylvs costume was in the tv movie. Both are near identical sans hat.

Weird fact for you. Peter is a massive doctor who fan (no big surprise there) in fact he bought 7's costume and has it in a display in his house. As recanted by McCoy himself.

Oh, me, too! Martin's going to be an awesome Bilbo; I knew that from the moment I heard he was in the running for the part.

I think McCoy would have made a great older Bilbo. Watching his run on Who, I noticed there was something distinctly Hobbitish about him (and not just because of his size).
