The video version of the popular George Lucas story series will follow hot on the heels of the December 18, 2014 debut of the next leg of the movie produced by Disney CEO JJ Abrams entitled Star Wars: Episode 7. Disney is the new owner of the Star Wars movie franchise. The original video release announcement by Electronic Arts (EA) gave the summer of 2015 as the target date, but it will now closely coincide with the movie release date. EA chief, Andrew Wilson, confirmed the holiday news via his Twitter account where he tweeted the intentions to awaiting fans and followers.
Work on Star Wars Battlefront was announced back in 2013 by the entertainment developer Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment (DICE). The EA subsidiary chose to produce a reboot of the extremely popular franchise instead of create a Battlefront II. The backdrop for the new release will be playable maps of planet Hoth and its satellite Endor.
DICE has also announced its next Battlefield game (number 5) is slated for a release sometime between October and December of 2016. DICE is seeking to provide gamers with more time to enjoy updates in content and extended services before following game releases are made which is one of the reasons for the forward move for the holiday release of the new Star Wars Battlefront game.
