America's Cup training accident leaves one dead

One person is dead after a catamaran capsized in San Francisco Bay during a training session for this summer's America's Cup .

36 year old Andrew Simpson, seen here on the right, was one of 11 crew members on board the vessel when it overturned.

He was trapped under the wreckage for 10 minutes before being rescued.

The crew was sailing for the Swedish Artemis Racing team which is the challenger of record for this year's cup.

The team's CEO spoke briefly to reporters.

(SOUNDBITE) ARTEMIS RACING CEO PAUL CAYARD SAYING:

"... our thoughts and prayers with Bart Simpson's, Andrew Simpson's family, his wife and kids and also with the rest of the teammates. It's a shocking experience to go through, and we have a lot to deal with in the next few days in terms of assuring everybody's well being."

Simpson, nicknamed Bart, won a gold medal at th 2008 Beijing Olympics and silver in last year's London Games.
