At least eight people lost their lives in the latest tragedy to hit the Bangladesh garment industry.

They died when fire swept through this clothing factory in Dhaka.

The company boss and a senior police officer were said to be among the victims.

The cause of the blaze wasn't immediately clear.

Witnesses described the scene.

(SOUNDBITE)(Bengali) BULBUL HAMDE, WITNESS, SAYING:

"When the building caught fire we rushed there. Also the fire-fighters came and controlled the fire. After that I saw them taking out dead bodies of the workers as well as the body of the owner of the factory, and a vehicle driving to hospital."

The fire happened just over two weeks since the collapse of the Rana Plaza clothing factory complex on April 24th.

On Thursday the number of dead in that disaster had risen to more than 890.

Recovery teams are still pulling bodies from the wreckage.
