STORY: Helen Mirren was crowned best actress at Britain's top theater awards on Sunday (April 28) for reprising her Oscar-winning portrayal of the Queen.

Mirren, 67, has won stellar reviews for starring in "The Audience", Peter Morgan's play about the private weekly meetings between Queen Elizabeth and the 12 British prime ministers during the six decades of her reign.

Mirren is no stranger to royalty having won an Academy award for the same role in the 2006 film "The Queen".

Backstage the actress explained why she believes she had to thank the British monarch for her awards success.

"Each time I feel really that people are responding to the Queen rather than to me if you know what I mean. I think that there is a real feeling of love and respect coming generally towards the Queen and I think I'm rather sort of coasting along on that wave of love and respect," Mirren told reporters.
