As experts continue investigating a deadly strain of bird flu in China, the virus has now been found outside the mainland for the first time.

A businessman from Taiwan has contracted the H7N9 strain of infection, which has killed at least 22 people in China.

Health officials say the 53-year-old picked up the virus while travelling in China.

He was hospitalised three days after returning, and is now in a critical condition in hospital.

As measures are taken to deal with the infection, Taiwan says a special out-patient clinic is being set up.

The World Health Organisation said on Wednesday (April 25) that the H7N9 strain is "one of the most lethal" of its kind.

In China, at least 109 people have now contracted the infection since it was first detected in March.
