In the antiplano of Bolivia, nearly two miles above sea level, fields are awash in red, white and black quinoa plants.

Still a nutritional staple for the indigenous people living here, this superfood is also producing super profits for the region.

The global boom for the golden grain has boosted prices five times in just nine years. In 2012 Bolivia exported about half of the 50 million tonnes it produced.

From field to factory to market- tens of thousands of people are involved in quinoa production.

The frost resistant crop grows easier in the arid climate than traditional crops like potatoes, beans and barely-- effectively creating more and more jobs each year.

Government officials hope 10 million dollars in credits for producers will help boost production further still to meet the increasing demands at home and abroad.

During the harvest time celebrations- songs and dancing for high yields and high returns.
