Thatcher's body removed from hotel

In the early hours of Tuesday (April 9) , the body of Britain's first and only female prime minister was removed from the central London hotel where she died a day earlier.

Media gathered outside the five-star Ritz Hotel in Piccadilly as Margaret Thatcher's body was removed from the hotel under heavy security.

The British government said a ceremonial funeral with military honours, a tribute usually reserved for senior members of the royal family, would be held for the "Iron Lady" next week at

London's St. Paul's Cathedral in accordance with her family's wishes.

Having retreated into seclusion after being deposed by her party, the death of her businessman husband Denis in 2003 and creeping dementia had kept Thatcher out of the public eye for years.

She had been in poor health for months.
