U.S. President Barack Obama spoke to thousands of supporters about gun control during a sometimes emotional rally in Connecticut.
Obama urged the crowd to lobby Congress for a vote on his proposals for tighter gun control.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING:
"Now is the time for everybody to make their voices heard from every state house to the corridors of Congress."
Tough resistance from the country's gun lobbies have stalled initiatives on capital hill.
At one point the crowd began chanting--
("We want a vote!")
The rally was held just an hour away from the site of last year's devastating school shooting in which 20 young children and six educators were gunned down before Christmas.
