China confident it can control bird flu outbreak

A pigeon trap snaps into action in Shanghai.

Pigeons infected with the H7N9 virus were discovered in a food market in the city earlier in the week.

The virus has so far killed six people in China - and the government wants to make sure it isn't spreading through the pigeon population.

The outbreak has scared many residents.

"I'm very worried," says this woman. "I have a child. I'm very worried the disease could spread throughout Shanghai."

Fears like those have prompted a run on surgical masks and herbal remedies said to stave off the flu.

Despite the concerns, a leading health official said on Sunday that China could control the outbreak.

And the World Health Organization repeated that there is no evidence of transmission from human to human.
