Canine soldiers train for battle

North Korea's state-run KRT television on Sunday showed soldiers training military dogs and conducting a firing drill amid heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula.

North Korea, angry about new U.N. sanctions imposed for its third nuclear weapon test in February, has made increasingly strident warnings of an imminent war with South Korea and the United States.

KRT showed footage of soldiers training dogs to jump over obstacles and attack effigies of South Korean Defence Minister Kim Kwan-jin, whom the North has called its "enemy No 1".

Earlier in the week, the North told foreign diplomats to consider leaving Pyongyang because of the tension, but diplomatic missions appeared to view the appeal as more rhetoric and staff have stayed put.
