Nelson Mandela is back at home after being discharged from a Pretoria hospital where he spent 10 days being treated for pneumonia.

The former South African president was taken by ambulance to his home in an upscale Johannesburg neighborhood. This was the third trip to the hospital for the Nobel Peace Prize winner in four months and prompted concerns worldwide about his declining health.

In South Africa, many took the latest update as an encouraging sign.

SOUNDBITE: RESIDENT, SEBOLA LESETSA, SAYING:

"I am very happy. This is the day that one has been waiting for which reminds me of the day he was released in that Robben Island. So I feel like he has been released. And indeed he has been released. I am so excited, I am so happy."

SOUNDBITE: LOCAL RESIDENT, THABO MABENA SAYING:

"I don't want him to come back to the hospital. He is fine when he is at home with his family. And we wish for him to stay healthy every time."
