Nelson Mandela's wife Graca Machel said on Thursday that the former president is recovering well and will not be discharged from hospital until doctors are satisfied with his recovery.

"Madiba is fine. Madiba is getting better and better. He is in hospital simply because the doctors want to be absolutely sure that he is strong enough to go home and that nothing is going to recur, but thank you very, very, very much for lifting him up. God is listening."
Mandela has spent just over a week in hospital. This is the third health scare in four months for the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who became South Africa's first black president in 199
