Samoa Air has announced it will charge customers by weight.

The airline said the "pay what you weigh" policy is the fairest way calculate tickets, as passengers will pay directly for their own weight and luggage. The new rule also eliminates the need for excess luggage fees.

The airline said it won't weigh customers in at check-in; passengers will just enter their weight details when booking online.

Samoa Airlines services the south Pacific region. Their fleet consists of small planes that carry between four and nine passengers.
