Residents in the sleepy fishing village on Yeonpyeong island are starting to worry. They live a mere 12 kilometers from the coastline of North Korea.

Stepped up threats from the North and memories of the 2010 shelling incident that left four people dead have created a sense of unease over the prospect of more provocations.

My heart is beating everyday, this 83 year old woman says. I'm scared there might be another attack.

But its hard to say whether that'll happen or not. A seemingly endless barrage of empty rhetoric has been streaming out of the North in recent weeks.

The most recent - a declaration that the North is entering quote a "state of war" with the South.

Government officials in Seoul brushed the threat aside, and residents think there's still only a slim chance of actual confrontation.

But for people living in Yeonpyeong, a constant reminder of the all too close threat from the North.
