Several buildings in southern Australia were burning as fast moving fires burnt out of control in the state of Victoria on Wednesday (March 27).

More than three aircrafts carrying water and up to 70 firefighting trucks have been brought in to fight the blaze fanned by strong winds, local media said.

Local media added that firefighters are concerned that changes in the wind direction could cause the fires to spread and some residents have chosen to evacuate.

In the town of Rockleigh, east of Adelaide, more than 1500 hectares of grassland burnt out of control after breaking containment lines. More than 160 firefighters are battling the blaze, local media has reported.

Several roads have been closed in the area but there have been no reports of homes being destroyed.
