Five Afghan police killed in Jalabad suicide attack

Suicide bombers killed five police officers in an Afghan police station in the eastern city of Jalalabad.

Police say one attacker detonated a car laden with explosives at the entrance to the police compound in a bid to let other attackers inside.

(SOUNDBITE) (Dari) JALALABAD PROVINCIAL POLICE CHIEF, AMIN SHARIF, SAYING:

" Five insurgents carrying guns and grenades wearing the uniform of foreigners have been shot dead. Also in this attack five Afghan policemen were martyred and four others wounded. In total eight insurgents were killed ."

Six civilians were wounded in the three hour attack, which happened just before dawn.
