CARL WOCKNER - THE RAIN
PRESENTED BY NICOLE
Fleeting moments in time that send tingles down our spines; emotions felt deep in the recesses of our hearts and the exhilaration we experience when something resonates with our soul.It takes a gifted singer-songwriter to capture the essence of these moments, and Carl Wockner is one of the few musicians who does just this with his innate ability to speak volumes through melodic riffs and subtle jazz harmonies.
His debut album 'Acoustic...ness' bears all the warmth of an intimate, off-the-cuff performance, combined with the insight of someone wise beyond their years. Following this long-awaited and successful release, Carl was nominated as a finalist in the 2012 MusicOz Awards in the 'Acoustic Singer-Songwriter' and 'Blues and Roots' categories.
A self-confessed romantic, Carl's soulful lyrics and impressive guitar work convey an infectious charm that spans across generations of listeners. With a style bordering on blues and soul, Carl seamlessly intertwines elements of jazz and funk to create an eclectic and unique musical flavour.
Having possessed a love of music from a young age (and an unfortunate fondness for electronics!), Carl has come a long way since his high school days spent wiring car speakers to an abysmal 25 watt bass amplifier to achieve that 'perfect sound'.
While Carl is the first to laugh at what he affectionately termed the worlds 'cheapest, crappest PA setup,' his determination to succeed and cheeky personality have seen him develop a strong following within the music community (and upgrade his equipment!).
Born and raised in regional Queensland, Carl gleans his virtues of honesty and integrity, quality over quantity, drive for success and patience from his days spent on construction sites from the age of two helping (or possibly hindering) his builder father. Carl puts this thirst for being creative with his hands down to his father's willingness to teach him how to build and fix things. Whether it is fixing a written-off motor; a radio that won't work; building his own recording studio or strumming unique melodies on his guitar, Carl is ever-so-humble about his clever abilities to create.
