STORY: Pope Francis on Friday morning was given a tour around his new home at the Vatican.

The pope arrived together with a delegation including former Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone. After a seal on the external door of the apartment was broken, Francis was handed the keys and he personally opened the door to the un-lit apartment.

The papal apartment which overlooks St. Peter's Squared was sealed off on February 28 evening as the Catholic Church awaited the election of the new pope.

Cardinal Bertone conducted the ceremonial sealing off immediately after Benedict's resignation took effect at 8 p.m. (1900gmt) on February 28. The doors leading to the papal study and bedroom were locked and sealed. A red ribbon with a Vatican seal was placed on the front doors.

During the conclave that elevated him and ahead of moving in the papal apartment, the pope has been staying at the Vatican's Casa Santa Martha residences
