Xi has China behind him, problems ahead, a lady by his side

Believe it or not, China does actually have a presidential vote.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHINA EDITOR, REUTERS BREAKINGVIEWS, JOHN FOLEY, SAYING:

"About 3000 lawmakers get to cast a ballot to say who they think should be the next president of China."

Of course there is really only one choice, which is Xi Jinping. That was decided a very long time ago.

But they can vote for him, they can vote against him, or they can abstain - as a few did when Hu Jintao was elected. And if they really think it should be someone else they can cross out his name altogether and write someone else.

"But there's been very little doubt since before last year when he was made General Secretary of the party, that the next leader of China would be Xi Jinping. That said, China can legitimately say that it has a democratic system where peo
