Fourteen people were killed and another eight injured when a sleeper coach plunged off a bridge in central China on Tuesday (March 12), state media reported.

Footage broadcast by China Central Television (CCTV) showed rescue and recovery workers at the scene.

The double decker coach was carrying 22 people when it crashed through the guard-rail of the bridge over the Yangtze River at Jinzhou, Hubei province, around 7pm local time (1100gmt) on Tuesday, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Two of the eight being treated in hospital were in critical condition on Wednesday (March 13), Xinhua reported.
