Giving Up The Right Life, G.U.R.L. for short, was founded by lead singer/guitarist Ryan Ashleigh and bassist high school pal Mike Millan in Edmonton in early 2007. Ryan's brother Evan Yardley was quick to join in on drums, and finally Brad Bremner filled out the line-up in late 2009. Bassist Brandon Hammond joined the group in 2012 replacing Mike Millan. The band's music falls somewhere in the pop-punk genre; a careful blend of influences like Green Day, Blink 182, and Rise Against.
