Freed U.N. peacekeepers cross into Jordan from Syria

Twenty-one United Nations peacekeepers held by rebels for three days in southern Syria are now free. They were brought by bus to Amman.

SOUNDBITE: U.N. RESIDENT COORDINATOR TO JORDAN, CONSTANZA FARINA saying:

"We were extremely relieved to know that the peacekeepers are safe and in good health in this very hospitable country which is Jordan."

The delegation, from the Philippines, had been monitoring a ceasefire line between Syria and Israel in the Golan Heights when they were seized by rebels. Here --- they are reportedly along the border according to this video posted to a social media website whose content Reuters cannot independently verify.

The group were taken hostage about six miles from the Syrian town of Jamla and were there since Wednesday.
