Prince Harry launched a major new fund-raising project for his charity Sentebale on Wednesday at a charity dinner in South Africa and said he hoped his mother Diana, Princess of Wales would be "proud" of his efforts.

Harry mentioned his late mother as he gave a speech at a gala dinner in Johannesburg after spending three days in neighbouring Lesotho where his organisation works to help disadvantaged children.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PRINCE HARRY SAYING:

"The future of this small and beautiful country and its magnificent people could and should be very bright. We need your support this evening to make it so. We at Sentebale, are hugely grateful for any contribution large or small. I know that it has been said but it's true. You just being here is already step one."

The royal hopes to raise 2.5 million pounds to build the Mamohato Centre, which will expand the charity's service of providing psychological care and peer mentoring for children and young people with HIV/Aids.
