South African paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius is in court for the third day on Thursday (February 21) for murder bail hearing as the lead investigator Hilton Botha himself faces murder charges.

Pistorius' girlfriend, 29-year-old model Reeva Steenkamp, was found shot dead in his Pretoria home in the early hours of Valentine's Day with initial reports suggesting the athlete may have mistaken her for an intruder.

State Prosecutor Gerrie Nel argues that Pistorius is a flight risk and will flee the country if granted bail. He alleges that Pistorius owns a house in Italy. The defence have denied this.

In a dramatic new development, South African police said on Thursday that the lead detective in Pistorius' murder case is himself facing attempted murder charges for opening fire on a minibus carrying seven people in 2011.
