Bosnian 'best actor' at Berlinale returns to Roma village
  • 11 years ago
Nazif Mujic, who won best actor at the 2013 Berlin Film Festival, is an unemployed Roma from a small village in Bosnia who had been living in poverty trying to provide for his family with no support. Mujic's pregnant wife Senada carried a dead baby for days because they did not have the money for surgery to save the child. In the end it was their own story that was told in the film An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker, directed by Bosnian Danis Tanovic. Now back home, Mujic, who played himself, said he hopes the film will bring global attention to the struggles of the Roma people. Al Jazeera's Aksel Zaimovic reports from Lukavac, Bosnia.
