Natalie Wood possibly injured before drowning death

Actress Natalie Wood had bruising on her arms and wrists and scratches on her neck when her body was pulled from the Pacific Ocean off the Californian coast in 1981.

That's according to a report released by LA's County Coroner's Office on Monday (January 14). It suggests Wood may have been injured before she hit the water.

The 43-year-old Hollywood star was found floating in the waters following a night of dining and drinking on an island and on a yacht with her husband, television star Robert Wagner, and actor Christopher Walken.

Neither of them are suspects.

However the report from June last year also states that the circumstances how Wood ended up in the water are "not clearly established" and there wasn't enough evidence to say her death was definitely not an accident.

The case has been shrouded in mystery for decades and police eventually reopened the investigation into Wood's death in 2011.

Starting her career in the film business as a child actress, Wood is probably best known for musical film "West Side Story" and starring opposite James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause."
