Australians prepare as more bushfires loom
  • 11 years ago
Firefighters in southeast Australia take advantage of cooler weather conditions on Friday to fill up.

Forecasters are predicting soaring temperatures over the weekend and more fires.

Australia is particularly vulnerable to bushfires, and a spell of hot weather across the south-east has helped fan the flames this year.

The heatwave started late December in Western Australia and has now spread across the nation leading to record breaking temperatures.

Like many, this resident is on high alert.

"Because I'm not very fit myself, I basically have to be prepared to go. So, I've just made sure I've loaded up everything that I need to take."

No deaths have been recorded but livestock has suffered in large numbers.

Scientists blame the creeping climate shift on rising global temperatures on average.
