Iran's might show

Iran detonates a sea mine off its southern coast.

A show of its military might, the country is conducting six days of naval, air and army drills.

State media broadcast images of submarines and ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials have conducted similar drills in the past to emphasize their ability to block the strategic strait if Iran faces a military attack over its disputed nuclear programme.

Forty percent of the world's sea-borne oil exports pass through the strait.

An Iranian navy commander said the latest drill, which lasts until Wednesday, would test missile systems, combat ships, submarines and reconnaissance methods.
