The retired U.S. General known as Stormin' Norman has died.

Norman Schwarzkopf passed away at his home in Tampa, Florida officials said. The cause of death was not immediately known.

The highly decorated four-star general led coalition forces that drove Iraqi President Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

Schwarzkopf, a burly Vietnam War vet, was known for his explosive temper.

He was 78.
